Anton Josef's music video for Montréal band The Dears, has been garnering a lot of attention lately. Although some of the attention may be related to the timeliness of the video (Anton could almost be considered prophetic in this regard), his visuals create a truly cinematic dystopia. Have a look for yourselves:
"The brand new video for "Money Babies" is as thoughtful as their arrangements, touching on ever-prevalent topics like material wealth, poverty, and class division. Director Anton Josef captures the band's powerful statement in a minimalist way, allowing the music to speak for itself while forcing the viewer to stop and think."
"Like your sci-fi uncomfortably nestled somewhere between Wall-E , Brave New World and Children of Men? Check out The Dears' video for "Money Babies," the first single from the neu-romantic Canadian rockers' new effort Missiles.
Directed by Anton Josef, the clip no doubt has been influenced by our current geopolitical and economic meltdowns. Bums in suits burn money to stay warm, bottled milk is sold and stolen among consumerist trash heaps, gas-masked security goons maintain border fences between a free-for-all wasteland and a dream-like suburb. Everyone looks too clean and too dirty at the same time."
